Rob Gregory B.Eng (Mining Engineering) 

Chief Operating Officer

Rob Gregory was appointed Chief Operating Officer on 1 July 2016.

A qualified mining engineer with over 30 years’ in the mining industry, Rob has significant experience in operating mines in both general managerial capacities and also as a managing director. He has extensive international experience including Indonesia, the Philippines, China and Papua New Guinea.

Prior to joining Sumatra Copper & Gold, Rob was Chief Operating Officer at Medusa’s Philippines operations where he was instrumental in increasing underground productivity. Rob brings a structured and disciplined approach having worked in large operations such as Medusa’s Co-O mine, the Porgera gold mine in PNG (currently owned and operated by Barrick Gold Corporation) and the Granny Smith gold mine (currently owned and operated by Goldfields). Rob’s expertise covers both underground and open pit mining as well as multiple commodities including gold, copper, nickel and coal.

Rob holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) Honors from the University of NSW.


Leonard M Manurung

General Manager Operations BE Mining, MBA Operations Management

Leonard Manurung  has more than 20 years' experience with several multinational metal and coal mining companies in operations management and mine planning. 
He specialises in mining business process and improvement as well as in human resources, administration, project evaluation and new project start-ups.

Mr Manurung holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering from UPN Yogyakarta and a MBA in Operations Management from ITB. His previous experience has included Mine Technical Director and Site Director at Indonesia’s only hard coking coal mine, Asmin Koalindo Tuhup, General Manager Mining and Business Development at Intraco Penta Tbk and senior management roles working for Freeport in the USA and Indonesia.



Ali Ahmid

Manager Environment and Community Relations BTEC (Chemistry), M.EnvMgm

Ali Ahmid was appointed General Manager Environment and Community Relations in January 2013 and is responsible for local and regional Government liaison, environmental compliance, liaison and communication with communities.

Ali has more than 20 years' experience in the mining industry and previously 15 years at Kelian Gold Mine in Kalimantan with Rio Tinto.
